Movie Review: “The Bourne Legacy”

By: Lacee Shepard

This past weekend I went to see the newest installment in the Bourne saga, “The Bourne Legacy.” Featuring actor Jeremy Renner (“The Avengers”) as opposed to Matt Damon, there was a lot of speculation about the storyline and if it would be an original or just a copy of the past three. After watching with an open mind I can say the movie really came into its own.

The plot follows Aaron Cross, who after nearly being killed by the government he spent the better part of his life working for, goes rogue and takes Dr. Marta Shearing (Rachel Weisz) with him. The movie only speeds up from there with the two dodging the government’s capture as the government looks to shut down the program Cross is in. As in all Bourne movies you get high intensity situations mixed in with some insane stunts and also the search for top secret super pills.

Viewers can argue some of the concepts and stunts are over the top. Why else would you go see an action movie then? Yes, the stunts were bordering on over the top at times, but never to the point it would be unbelievable. After following the character all over the world (with some intense car chases of course) we reach the optimistic end with the chance to make another…or three.

All in all, this movie covered everything you could want: the raw action, killing suspense, a subtle yet blooming love story and all kinds of science-y talk make you feel like it’s an intelligent movie as well.

Overall I would suggest this movie for just about anyone. Whether it’s a night out with the guys, by yourself or even a date night. While most girls struggle to appreciate action packed movies the budding relationship between the two main characters (plus Jeremy Renner’s sculpted arms) it’s subtle enough to not make the average man’s man uncomfortable.
