MAKING THE MOST OF A SITUATION: Profile of Football Player Marcus Hyde
By Sean Hilgeman
As is too often the case, there are people in America who grow up in situations without all the advantages enjoyed by the rest of the country. Their ability to succeed in spite of added hardships is a testament to their inner strength and will to accomplish something.
Marcus Hyde, 20, comes from the small rural towns of Ohio, born in Findlay but spending most of his life in Fostoria. Hyde's mother was a single parent with four children to look after. As the eldest of his siblings, Hyde had to share in some of the responsibility of parenting.

The MSU men’s basketball team battled for a hard-earned win against the Fighting Illini on Saturday afternoon. The final score favored the Spartans, but the “W” in the win column will not tell the entire story of the game.. By Kelsie Joestgen
Through the wave of confusion that the Izzone members went through when trying to buy student tickets yesterday, there still might some light at the end of the tunnel for students wanting to see the big game on Saturday.
Students who weren’t able to access the link that was e-mailed, as so many were not, can still go to the game in Detroit. The only problem is, instead of buying a $20 student ticket, you will have to fork over something along the lines of $200 or more for a ticket. How you ask? That’s easy, scalp them! I would just like to say that the sports edge writers gave their best efforts to beat my bracket, but didn’t even come close. Only one other person had the correct winner (as I did), yet he fell 27 points short in the final tally.
One quick thing I would like to point out is the fact that I had all Sweet 16 teams correct, and three of the four Final Four teams. Thank you all for trying, but I said I was going to win and I kept my word.
Remember my keys to winning, if you are not sure between two teams think of the conference. And when all else fails, pick the preseason No. 1.
Your high school hockey career is over, there’s a microscopic chance that you can play junior hockey, and there’s absolutely zero chance that you can play on Michigan State’s varsity hockey team. Great, you’re washed up at 20-years-old. You can either be a regular at drop in hockey or start growing your beer belly now and join a men’s league hockey team... By John Kalmar

The road to the NCAA Tournament received a huge boost for the Michigan State women’s basketball team after Sunday’s resounding come-from-behind victory over ranked Ohio State University, 52-46, at the Breslin Center.
With six points as the biggest lead for the Spartans, they appeared to be evenly matched with the Buckeyes. Each team traded key moments and key plays in this exciting basketball nail-biter, but the final minutes were the most critical in determining who would clinch the win. Read full story...
Recent MSU grad and decorated Spartan men’s soccer star Doug DeMartin is trading in his green and white for blue…but don’t worry. He’ll be sporting blue for the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer. DeMartin was selected as the 22nd overall pick by Kansas City in the 2009 MLS Super Draft in January.
The actions of Michigan State hockey players Corey Tropp and Andrew Conboy are inexcusable and are in no way condoned by the Michigan State hockey program, but they also must be put into some context in order to better understand what happened.
Offense wins you games, but defense wins you championships. That phrase couldn’t be more accurate for Super Bowl XLIII, as the Pittsburgh Steelers come in with the No. 1 ranked defense in the NFL. By Mike Marx, Sports Editor
