Like The Mars Volta’s music, their
latest live album ScabDates is hard to classify. For anyone
who has seen this makeshift group fronted by constants Cedric
Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (formerly of At the Drive-In),
ScabDates brings back memories of that great show. However,
for the casual Volta listener, it yields a mesmerizing display
of musical improvisation tied together with hints of a few hit
songs. As difficult as it may be to shift through the plethora
of guitar and keyboard sessions to find something familiar,
what more could you expect from a live Mars Volta album?
