The Living Things
Ahead of the Lions
Jive Records
Anti-government, anti-war, and anti-exploitation. Needless to say, this Living Things record is provocative. The band’s message, appearance and artwork are throwbacks to the hippie movement, yet they will keep you tied to the present with their sound, guided by the lead singer’s raspy tone much like that of The Strokes and backed by a plethora of grinding guitar riffs and deep bass drum beats. The album starts off strong and gives you plenty of songs that will stick in your head. However, the end of the recording seems to trail off. Despite this, you’ll find it hard to bypass this album scrolling through your iPod.
